Products Thermal/Catalytic Oxidizer Global Technologies' Dual Therm-CatTM thermal/catalytic oxidizer destroys organic vapor contaminants that are discharged from groundwater treatment and soil vapor extraction systems during site remediation. How the Therm-Cat Works The Therm-Cat model is designed to operate in both thermal (1400° - 1500°F) and catalytic (500° - 600°F) modes for maximum operational flexibility. The Therm-Cat is capable of adjusting to the changing conditions of any remediation site. During startup, the Therm-Cat operates in thermal mode to effectively destroy the high concentration of VOCs in the airstream (up to 50% LEL). Later in the lifecycle of the site, as the VOC concentrations decrease, the VOCs can be cost-effectively destroyed by switching the Therm-Cat to catalytic mode. The addition of catalyst to the Therm-Cat lowers the operating temperature and reduces operating cost. A Therm-Cat is sized based on volume of airflow, VOC loading and desired destruction efficiency. During operation, VOC-laden air is drawn through the Therm-Cat's fan and into the combustion chamber, where the contaminated air is heated and raised to the oxidizing temperature. When the VOC-laden air is oxidized, an exothermic reaction takes place. The VOCs in the airstream are converted to carbon dioxide and water vapor and the contaminant-free air is exhausted to atmosphere. Global's Fully Integrated Approach The Therm-Cat was designed as part of Global's entire line of soil and groundwater remediation products. The Global line of products, which includes Vapor Liquid Separators (Knockout Pots), Extraction Blower Packages, Oxidizers, and Acid Gas Scrubbers, is technologically advanced as well as user-friendly. Each module interfaces easily and is constructed for optimum performance and trouble-free operation. When networked, the Global modules form a comprehensive subsurface remediation system that works continuously and automatically to achieve site closure quickly. In addition, Global's modular approach allows rapid deployment and provides the flexibility necessary to successfully perform site remediation under a wide variety of conditions. System Components Standard Therm-CatTM systems include a modulating burner, FM and IRI approved fuel train, TEFC system fan, fresh air dilution valves, flame arrestor, flanged inlet and outlet, PLC controls, temperature recorder, first-out shutdown detector, and exhaust stack.
